Company Overview

Droniq GmbH is a joint venture of Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) and Deutsche Telekom, dedicated to developing digital infrastructure for unmanned aviation. The company delivers UTM services, drone traffic management solutions, and technologies that enable the safe integration of unmanned aircraft into European airspace.

The Challenge

As drone traffic continues to increase, UTM providers require technologies that ensure continuous aircraft visibility while supporting interoperability with existing aviation infrastructure.

The solution needed to:

  • Provide continuous LTE-based UAV tracking
  • Enhance cooperative airspace awareness
  • Receive ADS-B traffic information
  • Broadcast UAV position via FLARM
  • Support Detect & Avoid concepts
  • Enable future European UTM and U-Space services

Why Aerobits?

Droniq selected Aerobits because of its expertise in miniaturized avionics and cooperative surveillance technologies. Aerobits combined LTE connectivity, ADS-B reception and FLARM communication into a compact airborne device, creating a lightweight solution optimized for professional UAV integration and future UTM applications.

The Solution

Aerobits collaborated with Droniq on the development of the HOD (Hook-On-Device), an innovative airborne device integrating LTE connectivity with cooperative surveillance technologies.

The solution continuously transmits the UAV position through the LTE network while simultaneously receiving ADS-B traffic information and broadcasting the drone position via FLARM. This enables cloud-based drone tracking, improves local airspace awareness, supports Detect & Avoid implementation, and increases visibility between unmanned and manned aircraft operating in shared airspace.

The project also included the development of compact and OEM-ready variants to support future embedded UAV platforms.
